Rev. Floyd Peacock, Jr.
Congress of Christian Education, President
Rev. Floyd Peacock, Jr. was born on September 10, 1948, in Ocala, Florida and was the sixth child out of twelve born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Peacock, Sr. At the age of six, his parents moved to Mackennisville, Florida where he received his elementary education through the public school system, and graduated from Ransom High School in 1966. He was a member of Springhill Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J. D. Fairley. After working a variety of jobs, he decided to move to Pensacola, Florida. Pastor Peacock is a strong respectable family man who is married to a beautiful and supported wife of forty years, First Lady Johnnie Peacock; they are the proud parents of two sons, Eric and Corey Peacock, one adopted son, Jaden Packer, one daughter-in-law, Rhonda Peacock, and grandparents of three adorable grandchildren, Jamal, Jamon & Jamia Peacock.
In 1979, Pastor Peacock home burned down and he heard a call from God which was a blessing in his life. A spiritual benefit program was given by the true “Saints of God” which touched his fruitful spirit and softened his loving heart toward the ways of God. During his early years before accepting his call to preach God’s Word, he was ordained as a deacon, and dedicated to his duties by visiting the sick, spreading the gospel, and promoting unity in the church. The call God placed on his life was preparing him for a higher calling. On December 31, 1982, Pastor Peacock preached his trial sermon at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church under the ministerial leadership and exhortation of the esteemed Pastor Sam Jones.
In 1985, with a group of five members, he established New Birth Missionary Baptist Church where he has been the visionary and elite pastor for over 20 years. Pastor Peacock’s love for God and people can be seen through his teaching, preaching, and amazing singing at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. The Spirit of God is always present when he sings his favorite song, I Got A Mind to Live for Jesus. Early in his ministry, he was given the nickname, “The Singing Preacher” because of his dynamic singing abilities.
Despite trials and tribulations of his own, his dedication and commitment to God and to the church has never wavered. Severing as the sheep over his flock, Pastor Peacock has a profound and giving spirit in listening, praying, encouraging others, and assisting people in need. As a true disciple for Christ, he has a warm friendly smile and an uplifting voice that draws young and old people to be witnesses and doers for Jesus Christ. His favorite scripture is often spoken from the pulpit, Phillippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” His vision for the church now and the future church to come is to make disciples of each member who attends New Birth Baptist Missionary Baptist Church. The scripture passages from the Book of Habakkuk 2: 2&3 simplifies his vision; And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie; though it tarry, wait for it, because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
After 20 years of service, Pastor Peacock retired from Air Products in 1999 and continued employment at Solutia and Gulf Power before retiring from the work force. Surrounded by a loving and devoted family, friends in the community, administrative personnel and staff at New Birth Baptist Church and the First West Florida District Baptist Association, Ministers of the Gospel, devote deacons, and faithful church members he continues to “Minister the Word of God to a Dying World.”
He is active in his community and is the elite President of the Congress of Christian Education for the First West Florida Baptist District Association.
